The resurrection of The Undertaker

He has returned…

The Undertaker left fans wondering if he was retiring after years of rumors and nagging injuries after losing to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 33. After leaving his gloves in the center of the ring and later having what was believed to have been hip replacement surgery not long after, it seemed that The Phenom would be relegated to memories and inevitable induction to the WWE Hall of Fame.  After a rumored and middling match with John Cena at WrestleMania and a surprise match against Rusev at The Greatest Royal Rumble, one has to wonder if Undertaker will remain and if so, for how long?

Future matches

The Undertaker has comeback in a big way. He is slated to wrestle at Madison Square Gardens, SummerSlam, and at the Super Showdown in Australia in October. Thus far, The Undertaker has looked better than he has in years and certainly looks more mobile. However, he is no longer able to carry on a long match since he’s in the tail end of his career. The Deadman can still draw a crowd and work the mic as well as he always had. By all indications, Taker will remain a part-time performer. That’s not surprising given his age and the physical demands of the job. While we can’t expect high-caliber performances from the legend, it’s refreshing to see that he’s already been more present than Brock Lesnar.

How long will it last?

While it remains to be seen when The Undertaker will walk away from the ring, his return has proven to be a mixed bag. The Undertaker still has the presence and mystique but booking him in squash matches is like watching Kobe Bryant’s last game. While both looked good, the forums in which they performed seemed like glorified T-Ball games. It’s all the more lacking given the legacies that both icons have that they are to be subjected to such performances. The Undertaker would’ve just been best served to have remained undefeated at Wrestlemania. In this writer’s opinion, he should’ve won more championships but keeping The Streak intact, would’ve been more fitting since that would’ve been something hallowed and more uniquely his. According to previous rumors, one possibility could give us a rematch between he and Roman Reigns at WrestleMania. For now, all we can do is enjoy the return.
