Marlins Sold to Group Led by Jeter/Bush

All-Star and Former Governor buy a baseball team.

Former New York Yankees SS and all around baseball fan-favorite, Derek Jeter teamed up with former Florida Governor Jeb Bush and a team of others to purchase the Miami Marlins. The Jeter/Bush group won at the auction block…for $1.3 BILLION DOLLARS!

Any sale of a team in Major League Baseball needs at least 75% approval from the other team owners, which no one expects to be an issue. Soon-to-be former owner Jeffrey Loria, who is possibly going to be the next U.S. Ambassador to France, bought the team in 2002 for a measly $158 million.

That just goes to show what can happen to a team’s value after a second World Series and a brand new stadium.

Jeter recently expressed interest while at a Turn 2 Foundation event.

“I’ve made it very clear of ownership aspirations at some point. Who knows when that is, who knows if you get the opportunity. I hope I do”

Baseball runs deep for both new owners

Owning a team runs in the Bush family. Bush’s brother, Former President George W. Bush, was part owner of the Texas Rangers from 1989 until 1998 when he began his Presidential campaign.

Expectant father and Tampa resident, Jeter brings 20-years of MLB experience – and five World Series rings – to his new role. Although reports say Bush will be the “controlling” role, Jeter has said he will be active with the team.

The Jeter/Bush group beat out several other groups in the bidding, including one led by former Presidential nominee Mitt Romney’s son, Tagg Romney, and Hall-of-Fame pitcher Tom Glavine.

Marlins manager Don Mattingly thinks Jeter will do well in his new role of owner…

“Anything Derek wants to do, he’s gonna be good at”

There has been no word on when the vote will take place to approve the sale. Maybe now, Jeter can do something about these All-Star Game uniforms.
