STATE OF THE ‘E — WHAT A WEEK!

Hello everyone, and welcome to this weeks STATE OF THE ‘E right here on SCRUM SPORTS! I’m kind of wanting to ramble a bit this week and talk about the fallout of SUMMERSLAM from both the RAW and SMACKDOWN side of things. I honestly don’t see where all the hate is coming from for this week just past of WWE programing. Finn won the Universal Championship, Shinsuke won the NXT Championship, Bayley FINALLY got her callup, AJ Styles is FINALLY getting a shot at the WWE Championship and… BEAT UP JOHN CENA clean in the ring, Dudley’s “retired” (?) and lastly, Orton and Lesnar had the entire world talking.

I’ll be pretty much touching on all of these a bit during my article here today. I want to start with Finn. I’ve been a follower of this man for many years now. When he finally made it to the main roster, when he beat Reigns clean in that ring and got the birthday present of a lifetime, I lost it. I was so excited for him and for the WWE fans. We were finally getting ready to see a performers performer on the grand stage. At SUMMERSLAM, he proved why he should be there and why he should be there. Yes, he got injured with no fault of his own in the match but, he completed it. That man went through the pain, went through the heartache he knew he was going to have to endure when he had to give the belt up but, he did it. He kept to the script and did what he needed to do. Not many of these performers are willing to do that these days.

Finn has had my respect for many a year but last Sunday night, he showed why everyone should respect him. On to the next thing, Shinsuke bleeping Nakamura!!!!! Holy crap that entrance! I’ve watched it sooooo many times! The fans, the violin, Shinsuke, the atmosphere… EVERYTHING! And wow to that match as well. Completely incredible from start to finish. And, if Joe really got his jaw broken or fractured a bit, kudos to him for completing the match as well. That win for Shinsuke though was absolutely just as incredible as his entrance. Those chants stick with you for a long itme after hearing them. And if you watched any of the videos from the event on Twitter or YouTube, you’d see people were STILL chanting his theme leaving the Barclays Center. Goosebumps for sure.

BAYLEY! There’s really not much needed to say here. She finally got to do what she’s always wanted to do. I mean, granted, she’s been in a WWE ring for a couple years now but she’s actually in THE RING now. This is something she’s wanted since she was a kid and unlike most kids that wanted to be a wrestler for a living, she’s doing it. I don’t her but, she’s actually been stuck in NXT for a long time now. Her friends all got the callup before her and she’s had to go through a lot to be where she is now. She deserves to be there and she’s going to show each person that watches RAW why she did finally get that callup. It wasn’t because she wasn’t good enough, it’s because they knew she was THE women’s division in NXT and now they finally have their new wave coming in so she got out.

Look, man. AJ Styles. I don’t really know if I need to say anymore than needs to be said. I mean, he’s been wrestling since 1999, had a WCW contract in 2001 and has been going strong in TNA and NJPW for so many years. It’s utterly fantastic to see this man on the main stage doing his thing completely and totally in front of so many people. This has truly been a long time coming for this man. He’s fought everything and everyone for this chance. He’s done everything needed to be where he is and da**it he deserves everything that will be coming to him soon. I’m super duper happy for him and truly hope he wins at the next PPV.

I’m not going to spend too much time on the Dudley’s simply because it’s one of those blurred lines, much like The Miz and Daniel Bryan this passed week as well. I’m not sure where they’re going with it and I’m not wanting to make myself look like a putz if both are storylines. I will say, if they indeed are free agents like has been reported, if they really are done with the company, I wish them well in everything they do. I fully, in my opinion believe these guys to be the G.O.A.T of Tag-Teams. I was lucky enough to actually watch them at the ECW Arena right in Philly way back when I was a teenager. I was at the Viking Hall every single time. Those are memories I will cherish forever…. if you guys really are done, thank you for everything.

My fellow wrestling writer, Gene said his piece earlier this week and I feel like I need to say mine. I think the company is trying to save face. This isn’t the first time it’s been said and seen that Brock has gone off-script and did pretty much what he wanted to do. I’m not saying he did, I’m not saying he didn’t… I’m just saying that I personally believe they’re trying to save face and that’s that. I’ll leave you this week and cannot wait to see what happens this week. Stay awesome, everyone.
