Silver Slugger Awards 2016

Tonight, the 2016 Silver Slugger awards were announced. Here is a recap of all who took home hardware.

American League

First Base: Miguel Cabrera, Detroit Tigers. This is Cabrera’s 7th such award. He had 188 hits and 108 RBI’s this season.

Second Base: Jose Altuve, Houston Astros. Altuve took home his 3rd consecutive award tonight. Altuve had a batting average of .338 with 24 homeruns.

Shortstop: Xander Boegarts, Boston Red Sox. This is Boegart’s 2nd consecutive. Boegarts had 192 hits with an on base percentage of .356.

Third Base: Josh Donaldson, Toronto Blue Jays. This is Donaldson’s 2nd consecutive silver slugger award. He had 37 home runs this season.

Catcher: Salvador Perez, Kansas City Royals. Tonight Perez took home his first silver slugger award. Perez had 127 hits with 64 RBI’s.

Outfield: Mark Trumbo, Baltimore Orioles. This is Trumbo’s first silver slugger award. He had a career high 47 home runs this season.

Outfield: Mookie Betts, Boston Red Sox. This is the first silver slugger for Betts. Betts had 113 RBI’s and 31 home runs.

Outfield: Mike Trout, Los Angeles Angels. Trout took home his 5th consecutive silver slugger award tonight. He had a a batting average of .315 and 100 RBI’s.

Designated Hitter: David Ortiz, Boston Red Sox. In his last season, Ortiz collected his 7th silver slugger award. Ortiz had 127 RBI’s with 169 hits.

National League

First Base: Anthony Rizzo, Chicago Cubs. The world series champion received his first silver slugger award tonight. Rizzo had a batting average of .292 with 109 RBI’s.

Second Base: Daniel Murphy, Washington Nationals. This is Murphy’s first silver slugger award. He had a batting average .347 and 104 RBI’s.

Shortshop: Corey Seager, Los Angeles Dodgers. Rookie Seager took home his first silver slugger award. Seager had a a batting average of .308 with 105 runs.

Third Base: Nolan Arenado, Colorado Rockies. This is Arenado’s 2nd consecutive silver slugger award. Arenado had 41 home runs and 133 RBI’s.

Catcher: Wilson Ramos, Washington Nationals. Ramos collected his first silver slugger award tonight. Ramos had a batting average of .307 with 148 hits.

Outfield: Charlie Blackmon, Colorado Rockies. This is the first silver slugger for Blackmon. He had a batting average of .324 with 187 hits.

Outfield: Christian Yelich, Miami Marlins. This is Yelich’s first silver slugger award. He had 98 RBI’s with 172 hits.

Outfield: Yoenis Cespedes, New York Mets. This is the first silver slugger award for Cespedes. Cespedes had 86 RBI’s with 31 home runs.

Pitcher: Jake Arrieta, Chicago Cubs. The World Series champ took home his first silver slugger award tonight. Arrieta had two home runs with seven RBI’s.
